Toxic leaders and how to recognize them by Kumudu

Toxic managers can often be found in organizations. According to a survey conducted, about 76% of managers are toxic managers. Experienced and talented employees in the company leave under such circumstances and other employees work under extreme pressure and stress.

Many toxic managers believe that intimidation is used to get results. Their belief was that if employees were constantly afraid of losing their jobs, being humiliated or being punished, they would do their utmost. The reality is that intimidation and fear have the opposite effect. Instead, due to extreme fear, the employee is unable to perform his duties properly.

Managers like this are always quick to punish rather than correct when something goes wrong. Here employees do not try to learn from mistakes and are reluctant to solve problems and expect help from the manager. Such managers do not admit their mistakes and refrain from taking responsibility. Instead, they blame others for neglect. On the contrary, the same manager expects accountability from their employees.

At no point does the manager advance his hypothetical opinion without attempting to understand the employee's actual situation.

The role of a manager is to train, support, develop and assist employees to achieve their best work. This is done by delegating, challenging and empowering employees to make independent decisions. Jordan Nathan, Founder and CEO of Caraway, said: “Giving employees the freedom to make small decisions every day is crucial to running an effective business. It keeps them happy and reduces turnover. ”
